The Gum Theif

So let me start this post of a lovely story that takes me many years back.

Ever since I was little, I was always fascinated with gum. Yellow gum, green gum, bubble gum, mint gum... you name it, and I wanted it. As a little girl, I loved going to the grocery store and mall because the gum aisles were the best part. Money was not an option at the time because I did not have a dime to my name. I started a gum habit which led to me stealing gum (which I thought was innocent at the time). My parents suddenly caught onto what I was doing because I was a bad liar. Every time I got caught stealing gum, they would immidately take me to the store owner and tell me to apologize. With the tears filling my big brown eyes, I knew that nobody could say no to me (which was the case 100% of the time). I had this gum habit down to an art.

Well, one day, my family went to blockbuster to pick out a movie. On the way to the store I was already planning on what type of gum I would steal. As I approached the store I went straight towards the candy aisle and there it was, an entire row of rainbow colored gum. As I began to reach my hand out, my parents stopped me and said "come with me." They took me to the parking lot where there was a man in a uniform. He approached me and gave me a lecture I will never forget. My brother and sister were in the car watching the entire situation. They were both afraid I was going to go to jail.

Due to the traumatizing experience, I can proudly say that was the last day I ever stole anything. Needless to say, I didn't go to jail, nor was that a real police officer who gave me a lecture. After a couple years my parents told me it was just a fireman, but they knew anyone in a suit would intimidate me, and at the time I did not know the difference. Nice one!

Anyways, I still have a mad love for gum, and Lucas is well aware of this. He is also aware that I am notorious for chewing gum for 5 seconds and grabbing a new piece once all the sugar is gone. Knowing this, he decided to hide his "secret gum stash" from me." Ha, expecting that I would not find it... I can smell gum from 5 miles away. The first hiding space was not very good, it was in his sock drawer (which I found immediately). I started feeding off the gum for a couple days, and he realized I found his stash. He decided to hide his stash again and he assured me that I would not find it. Well, I decided to be patient and I knew the gum would come to me.

So today I was boxing up coffee mugs for the big move in October. As I am wrapping each mug, I come across a mug that has.... wait for it... Lucas's gum stash in it! I knew it, the gum came to me, I was not even looking this time. After I got done opening the new pack and enjoying each sugary taste of goodness, I text lucas and said, "nice try."

Hmm.. I wonder where the next hiding spot will be? Good luck Lucas :)

Updates

  • Hey everyone! Just wanted to update everyone on what we are doing and the next steps we will be taking very soon. Lucas and I have been looking at other apartments in the past month and are happy to report that we will be moving to a different apartment in October! This is amazing news because this is one of the first big decisions we have made together so far. The apartment also includes a washer/dryer which I have been without for 2 years! I can not wait to wash every article of clothing we own!
  • Other exciting news includes the raise I got at my job! This is a huge blessing to both Lucas and I because we have the comfort of knowing that I will be staying at my current job. I have been given more opportunities at work to work on leadership skills and ways to improve the store and myself.
  • Our dog Maggie is finally getting used to Lucas (I thought this day would never come).
  • Last final news is that Lucas has been encouraging me to work out (which is something I never thought I would ever do). This is a cool thing we can do together and I never thought I would say this, but I enjoy going to the gym! I am still going to have to get used to being sore, but aside from that, it never hurts to be healthy!
Well folks, those are the main updates as of now. We are very excited to start packing up and start fresh in our very first apartment that we picked out together!

Clean mouth

Lucas and I like to get ready together in the bathroom every morning. Since there is limited space, we are very crammed and are in agreement that we both get half of the mirror. We have a mirror/cabinet right above the sink that holds many products of mine. One product is an expensive facial cleanser my sister got me for the wedding. My toothbrush however is right underneath the cabinet sitting in a little ball jar (pretty cute, I know). Lucas does not like "messy" things or when I leave my products out. One night while we were brushing our teeth, there was a gooey substance on my toothbrush. Lucas noticed it and blamed the mess on me since I normally leave things out. We did not notice where the mess was coming from, so being the good wife that I am, I quickly apologized. The next day, the same substance was on my toothbrush again, I cleaned it off and there were bubbles that appeared. I open the cabinet to grab the face wash and there it was.. my face wash cap was not screwed on properly. Right then I knew exactly who was to blame. I have been letting Lucas use the face wash every night, and I am 100% positive that it was him who forgot. I called him in and told him that I've been brushing my teeth with soap for the past week because he didn't put the cap back on! He looked scared at first... then he started laughing. I tried to be strong and keep my mad face on, but the fact that I had been washing my teeth with soap for the past week was nothing but laughable. Oh the joys of  being married :)

Easy Mac?

So, when you love someone you enjoy doing nice things for them like... cooking (So Lucas says). I was under the impression that Lucas already knew how to cook, because he has told me many times that he does. After my long hard day of work, I was tired and hungry and decided to text him and ask him to have something prepared for me when I got home. Since he hasn't proven his cooking skills to me yet, I decided to make it easy on him and my request was Macaroni and Cheese (the blue box). I don't care how old you are, that food will always taste good. Anyway, I have been dreaming about the wonderful noodles all night at work and was expecting a candle light dinner when I got home. Once I opened the door to our 1 bedroom/800 square feet of home, I noticed Lucas standing in front of the microwave. Hm... As I got closer, I asked him, " what are you doing?" He replied, "I'm making the mac and cheese you wanted." First off, he used a cereal bowl and filled it with noodles and water. Second, he had no idea that the directions included butter AND milk. In his defense, he claimed he thought it was Easy Mac (which he saw me make on our honeymoon). How can you get upset at that? It was a very adorable moment, and I got to teach him how to make Mac and Cheese properly. Hm... I wonder what will be next?

Mrs. Ball

Hello, we are recently married. We thought it would be a good idea to start a blog and write about all the funny and silly things that happen within our first year of marriage. Here is a little history of us. We met 5 years ago in college… before then, we both grew up with different family backgrounds. She grew up in California, and he was a Midwestern boy. Our passions aligned with the common interest in music, traveling, and eating foods that are not so healthy. We continue to learn about each other daily and are excited to share our stories with you.
