Gum Theif continued...

Okay, let me start this blog off by saying I am in no way addicted to gum. I do enjoy the different flavors and the freedom to chew on gum when I want. So essentially, if I buy gum in bulk at Sams club, then I will probably eat it if it just laying around.

Lucas on the other hand is very logical when it comes to the "pieces" of gum that we have in our house. He calculates how much gum we should be eating each day to save money... If it were up to me, I would eat every single piece in one day. Apparently out of the 12 packs of gum we own, I have eaten over 8 packs in 2 weeks. I know it sounds like a lot, but like it said, it is second nature to grab a pack if it is right in front of my face. :)

I have noticed that Lucas has continued to hide packs in his "man cave". So every time I go in there I grab a pack and just start running for my life. I don't get very far because he is right behind me and tackles me for the pack of gum. (Oh, the little things).

You think that by my last gum thief post we would learn how to deal with this "situation", but it has only progressed into a game.

Now, Lucas has logically calculated how to save money on eating less gum. This is the formula: Less gum = no cavities = save money on dental appointments=save money on buying gum= happy Lucas= gum craving not filled by Hannah.

In conclusion, hopefully we will find a happy medium. If not, then it saves for good stories for our future children.

Salt and ....

Hello everyone!

We are proud to announce that we have officially moved into our first apartment together. The move went great thanks to Lucas and his moving experience. In a nutshell, we moved everything and unpacked in a total of 3 hours! Also, our new king size bed was delivered on Sunday, we are very excited!

In other news let me share a little story that happened the second day in our new apartment.

After organizing and moving furniture around, I decided to take a rest. Now, Lucas doesn't believe in naps so he just paces around the apartment trying to find something to do. While I am minding my own business in our bedroom, I notice that things get "too quiet" around the apartment. After a couple minutes, Lucas comes into the bedroom coughing really hard and trying to catch his breath. I asked him what was wrong and all I could pick out of the conversation was "I .. cough cough... pepper spray..." So I run into the kitchen to see my bright pink pepper spray bottle on top of the counter and I notice that it has been sprayed all over the cabinets (it looks like an orange substance.) So I start coughing and Lucas starts to laugh.

Instead of him spraying the pepper spray in the kitchen, he could have walked 5 steps to our back porch if he was really that curious. Instead he chooses to experiment and "test" it out to see if I really works. (Not like I have ever used it before)

After we thought we cleaned up all the spray, my sister in law came over to give us some tasty house warming treats. She ended up touching our counter and later touched her eye. Later on facebook I see this post:

Today I touched mace that had been sprayed on a surface, forgot to wash my hands, then touched my eye while driving home. It hurt, and it still hurts.

Well, guess I get to scratch "get mace in eye" off my bucket list.

So in the end, Lucas and I learned that it is not okay to test out pepper spray in the kitchen... or anywhere else. haha!

Updates for October

Hey everyone! Sorry we haven't updated this for a while, our days seem to get busier and busier. As for an update on how we are doing, we are still holding on for this awesome roller coaster ride. Since I've talked to you last, I accepted a job at a non-profit organization called Youth First. There, I will be the program coordinator and I start in two weeks. We are very excited for me to have this opportunity because it is a job that is right up my alley. :)
Our new apartment move is next week which we are anticipating because we are basically living in an apartment full of boxes. It's funny how once you pack up something you haven't used in a year and suddenly you feel the need to use a specific object merely because it is packed away. I've been doing that the past couple weeks, haha.
Lucas and I have been doing great and are learning new things about eachother everyday ( which is what I enjoy the most about marriage). I thought after 4 year of dating I would know mostly everything, but it's different once you live with someone! ( different in a good way ) :). One thing I love about Lucas is his love for Jesus. He encourages us to read the bible together and continue with our devotionals daily. That quality in him makes me fall more and more in love with him everyday. Diving into the word together helps us not only grow spiritually but emotionally as well. And I can honestly say, the more we trust in God, the more God opens doors for us to see His beauty.

In other news, our pup Maggie is doing ok. She caught some flees at the disc golf field so we had to put a cone on her head ( for all of you that were wondering about the picture). She is fine now after her flea medicine kicked in. I also got crafty and decided to groom her with my at home grooming kit. Who knew she has so much hair that needed to be removed. We could have made a second dog from that giant pile of fur. We saved $30 which was nice! :)

I am excited for next week! It is my last week at Premiere Tan and our moving week. Also, my dad will be in town for a couple days and I always get excited about that because I like hanging out with him:)

As of now, that's the update for October. It is Fall Festival week so make sure you eat some pronto pups for me! We are starting our "healthy eating" phase next week haha. I start my new job in 2 weeks so wish me luck!

The Gum Theif

So let me start this post of a lovely story that takes me many years back.

Ever since I was little, I was always fascinated with gum. Yellow gum, green gum, bubble gum, mint gum... you name it, and I wanted it. As a little girl, I loved going to the grocery store and mall because the gum aisles were the best part. Money was not an option at the time because I did not have a dime to my name. I started a gum habit which led to me stealing gum (which I thought was innocent at the time). My parents suddenly caught onto what I was doing because I was a bad liar. Every time I got caught stealing gum, they would immidately take me to the store owner and tell me to apologize. With the tears filling my big brown eyes, I knew that nobody could say no to me (which was the case 100% of the time). I had this gum habit down to an art.

Well, one day, my family went to blockbuster to pick out a movie. On the way to the store I was already planning on what type of gum I would steal. As I approached the store I went straight towards the candy aisle and there it was, an entire row of rainbow colored gum. As I began to reach my hand out, my parents stopped me and said "come with me." They took me to the parking lot where there was a man in a uniform. He approached me and gave me a lecture I will never forget. My brother and sister were in the car watching the entire situation. They were both afraid I was going to go to jail.

Due to the traumatizing experience, I can proudly say that was the last day I ever stole anything. Needless to say, I didn't go to jail, nor was that a real police officer who gave me a lecture. After a couple years my parents told me it was just a fireman, but they knew anyone in a suit would intimidate me, and at the time I did not know the difference. Nice one!

Anyways, I still have a mad love for gum, and Lucas is well aware of this. He is also aware that I am notorious for chewing gum for 5 seconds and grabbing a new piece once all the sugar is gone. Knowing this, he decided to hide his "secret gum stash" from me." Ha, expecting that I would not find it... I can smell gum from 5 miles away. The first hiding space was not very good, it was in his sock drawer (which I found immediately). I started feeding off the gum for a couple days, and he realized I found his stash. He decided to hide his stash again and he assured me that I would not find it. Well, I decided to be patient and I knew the gum would come to me.

So today I was boxing up coffee mugs for the big move in October. As I am wrapping each mug, I come across a mug that has.... wait for it... Lucas's gum stash in it! I knew it, the gum came to me, I was not even looking this time. After I got done opening the new pack and enjoying each sugary taste of goodness, I text lucas and said, "nice try."

Hmm.. I wonder where the next hiding spot will be? Good luck Lucas :)

Updates

  • Hey everyone! Just wanted to update everyone on what we are doing and the next steps we will be taking very soon. Lucas and I have been looking at other apartments in the past month and are happy to report that we will be moving to a different apartment in October! This is amazing news because this is one of the first big decisions we have made together so far. The apartment also includes a washer/dryer which I have been without for 2 years! I can not wait to wash every article of clothing we own!
  • Other exciting news includes the raise I got at my job! This is a huge blessing to both Lucas and I because we have the comfort of knowing that I will be staying at my current job. I have been given more opportunities at work to work on leadership skills and ways to improve the store and myself.
  • Our dog Maggie is finally getting used to Lucas (I thought this day would never come).
  • Last final news is that Lucas has been encouraging me to work out (which is something I never thought I would ever do). This is a cool thing we can do together and I never thought I would say this, but I enjoy going to the gym! I am still going to have to get used to being sore, but aside from that, it never hurts to be healthy!
Well folks, those are the main updates as of now. We are very excited to start packing up and start fresh in our very first apartment that we picked out together!
